By the second half of the decade however, all was not
well on Ghuznee street...
Tightening the purse strings was not enough to save
the station from projected bankruptcy - with decreas-
es in advertising revenue, along with costs associated
with changing frequency compounding to signal the
end for RadioActive.FM.
However, after 40 years in the capital, Active was given
a lifeline by some of its most dedicated listeners.
Rallied together by longtime RadioActive.FM supporter
Ross Steele, the Radio Active Charitable trust assem-
bled to purchase, and continue operating the station.
The Trust called on loyal listeners to support their local
station through a GiveALittle campaign, targeted at
$88,600 to pay off debts, upgrade equipment, and
move the station from Ghuznee Street, to its new home
at 40 Taranaki Street.
The “ReActivate” campaign is best remembered for its
fundraising concerts, where Active returned to the Stu-
dent Union Building to the music of Jon Toogood, Fat
Freddy’s Drop, and TrinityRoots, amongst others.
The GiveALittle campaign raised
